Healthy paws in winter

Nature has actually equipped our dogs' paws well against ice and snow , but you have to give them a little help when it comes to protecting them from salt and grit.

Healthy paws, claws and paw pads are extremely important for the well-being of your furry friend. That is why nature has designed our four-legged friends' "footwear" to cope well with low temperatures, ice and snow. Even hours-long walks through snowy winter landscapes are usually no problem for our darlings, on the contrary: most of them love to romp through deep snow.

However, paw pads and claws are of course not as perfectly protected as our feet, which are framed by sturdy shoes. Salt and grit or clumps of ice that get caught between the claws can be particularly harmful to our four-legged friends' paws. They can cause fine cracks in the skin or chafing, which are very painful and can lead to inflammation. Ideally, it shouldn't get that far in the first place , and fortunately owners can easily prevent these dangers.

The right paw protection ointment, which is applied before every walk, provides a protective layer. Small cracks are closed, the road salt cannot penetrate the paws and the skin does not dry out.

By the way, applying cream is not only useful in winter, but also protects the skin from drying out in summer.

Check gaps

If four-legged friends are limping after a walk in winter, it is often due to a foreign body. If annoying stones or ice crystals that have become stuck between the pads are not removed, they can cause chafing.

The best way to prevent this is to check the spaces between the claws and remove as much of the debris as possible .
