Healthy cooling, swimming and tips for summer with dogs
Your guide with tips for the perfect summer with your dog
BEACHPLEASE
In June, everything revolves around healthy cooling, swimming and tips for summer with dogs.
The cool water
On a hot summer day, nothing is better than spending the day by the water with our beloved four-legged friends. After all, it not only promises good mood and a change from the usual walk, but above all one thing: cooling off. However, there are a few things to keep in mind when visiting a lake, river or sea.
Slow acclimatization to temperature differences
Dogs regulate their temperature using their paws and panting. It is particularly important on particularly hot days to slowly get your four-legged friends used to the cool water. Just like us humans, they can suffer a shock if they are exposed to too much cold. So cool down their paws first, then the rest.
And then, full speed into the water!?
Swimming is healthy. It's easy on the joints, good for building muscle and is fun. Please note, however, that not every dog can swim safely from birth. Listen to your instincts and only ask for as much as you can so that you don't overwhelm your dog. So here's our tip: tie the swimming toy to a rope at first or attach it to your biothane leash (or tow line). This way the toy doesn't drift too far and you can actively control how far your furry friend goes into the water. The lighthouse is perfect for this, and its design also reduces excessive swallowing of water when grabbing the toy. This can quickly become dangerous, especially in salt water. For unsure swimmers or non-swimmers, we also recommend using a life jacket.
Swimming, drinking, resting
Having fun makes you tired. Swimming makes you tired. A break in between is important. Always provide your darling with enough drinking water and make sure that he drinks enough, especially on the beach in salt water. And then it's time to warm up. That's right. Many dogs quickly catch cold in the back area. What follows is the well-known "water tail". By drying your furry friend with a towel or putting on a bathrobe, you can prevent such painful problems and avoid visits to the vet. A suitable bathrobe is not only good for your dog's health. Dirt and sand get caught in it and don't end up in your car, hotel room, vacation apartment or home.
Healthy snacking
And since a perfect summer day also includes a delicious snack, this month we are introducing you to our plaice: Plaice is a monoprotein supplier and is therefore ideal for allergy sufferers. It comes from our trusted fish supplier, directly from the Dutch North Sea. Fish is also great for our four-legged friends: It provides protein and essential fatty acids, which are important for the immune system, brain function and the cardiovascular system.
Suitable for any dog that likes to chew and loves fish. However, please never leave your pet unattended with a chew snack.
