Dog tag with engraving: What should be on it? | Jingle-free & Lightweight
What really belongs on a dog tag?
What should go on an engraved dog tag? We explain which information is essential, whether dog tags are mandatory, and why our personalized, silent acrylic dog tags are your ideal everyday companion.
Oops, it was gone for a moment! Our engraved dog tag had snuck out of our shop due to a small technical mishap. But first, the good news: it's back!
Your beloved, personalized, engraved dog tag is available to order again immediately – and we are using this comeback to provide a practical guide to your four-legged friend's safety.
What belongs on a dog tag – and what can fit on it?
A dog tag is much more than just a pretty accessory for a collar or harness. It is the fastest and most direct way to be reunited with your dog if they get scared or decide to explore the world on their own.
To ensure no valuable time is lost in an emergency, we explain here what is truly important, what makes sense, and what the optimal layout looks like.
1. First things first: Your phone number
Its importance cannot be emphasized enough: Your mobile number is the most important information on the tag! Anyone who finds your dog will usually reach for their smartphone immediately. A clearly legible phone number ensures that you are called directly – without the finder having to drive to an animal shelter or have the chip scanned. We always engrave the dog tag with the country code, e.g., Germany +49. The simple reason for this is that it ensures you can be reached in an emergency, even when abroad.
2. Your dog's name
The call name is best placed on the front of the tag. It helps finders tremendously to address your dog by name immediately, build trust, and calm them down in a stressful situation.
3. A symbol
With a custom symbol, you give the engraved dog tag a unique look that suits both you and your four-legged friend.
Does my dog even need a tag? (The legal situation in Germany)
In Germany, there is no nationwide, uniform requirement to wear a private dog tag. Regulations vary depending on the federal state, city, or municipality.
In many municipalities, however, it is mandatory to have the official tax or rabies tag visibly attached to the collar. Regardless of local regulations, one thing is certain: an individual dog tag with a mobile number is the simplest and fastest way to get your dog back home without detours involving questioning people or authorities.
Why our acrylic dog tags are the perfect everyday companions
Not every dog tag is the same. Traditional metal tags often have two major drawbacks: they are heavy and they clatter against the collar or bowl with every movement – which annoys many dogs (and owners!).
Our personalized acrylic dog tags solve this problem elegantly:
- Silent & lightweight: No annoying noise during walks or feeding. Thanks to their extremely low weight, your dog barely feels the tag – ideal even for small breeds and puppies!
- Waterproof & durable: Whether wild romping in the undergrowth or a refreshing swim in a lake or the sea – the material stands up to any adventure.
- Precise laser engraving: Customize your tag exactly to your taste with a motif of your choice. The laser engraving is deep, razor-sharp, and will not wash or rub off.
- Double-sided engraving included: Plenty of space for everything that is important in an emergency.
