So if you cut your dog's claws yourself, you are best equipped with the LILA LOVES IT claw scissors.
To ensure that claw trimming is successful and safe, here are the instructions from our senior veterinarian, Dr. Stefanie Mallmann. If you are unsure, it is best to ask your local veterinarian to show you how to trim claws properly.
DIRECTIONS:
The easiest way to cut your four-legged friend's claws is when he is lying on his side. Make sure there is good lighting when cutting so that you can easily see the blood vessels in the claw. If your dog has dark claws, you can try shining a flashlight through individual claws.
Take your dog's paw in your hand and hold the claw you want to cut at the base of the claw. Hold the claw scissors at a 45° angle to the claw and cut from bottom to top. Please trim the claw carefully, "slice by slice", so as not to cut off too much.
