The right dog toy
Dog toys should be "dog-friendly." This primarily means that they satisfy a dog's natural play needs: chewing, tugging, fetching, thinking, and cuddling. It's ideal if you offer a separate toy for each need. After all, variety is fun for your dog, too.
Puppy toys
Your puppy loves to chew on your hands, your shoelaces, or your furniture with his small, sharp teeth. In such cases, you can simply offer your puppy one of our dog toys designed for chewing: Elton Elephant or Franzi Flamingo, for example. These lovingly handcrafted dog toys are made of soft cotton thread, perfect for protecting your little rascal's baby teeth while keeping him busy. Chewing not only relieves stress, but also helps maintain his teeth.
The different dog play needs
Chewing & Tugging: Most dogs love tug-of-war and prey games. Since these games release considerable force, the toy should be made of a particularly robust and durable material. Our classic choice is our natural hemp knot, which is available in the right size for every dog.
Hunting: Throwing and retrieving toys are ideal for channeling your dog's natural hunting instinct toward the toy and thus controlling it. Targeted retrieving training also promotes bonding. Try a snack dummy: The treats inside the pouch encourage your dog to pick it up. As soon as they retrieve it, they receive a nice reward. If you don't want to use food, you can use a toy with a squeaker instead. Just experiment and see if your dog responds better to food or a squeaker.
Important: You should only play tug-of-war and fetch games with your dog after their teeth have shed, i.e., from the fifth to seventh month of life at the earliest. Given the forces involved, there's a risk of damaging their teeth.
Cuddling: Plush toys are suitable for dogs of all ages. Four-legged friends love to carry them around, cuddle with them, or use them as a snuggle pillow. Dogsmopolitan offers a perfect selection of dog toys: They contain no small parts that could come loose and be swallowed by your dog, and they are free of chemicals that could be ingested when carried in the mouth.
Intelligence: IQ toys are also a must-have for any dog household, as physical exercise isn't enough to keep our clever four-legged friends busy. IQ toys are specifically designed to stimulate dogs' minds. Since the toys are available in various difficulty levels, even beginners can quickly experience success. Dogs also find it incredibly enjoyable to earn a portion of their food.
Float: For dogs who love the water, Dogsmopolitan has a range of great floating toys. With their floating ability and additional features, such as the visibility (standing up) of the toy in the water, these toys offer an extra dose of fun in the water.
Chewing behavior
When choosing a toy, you should also consider your dog's chewing behavior. Dogsmopolitan offers a variety of toys with a wide range of options for every individual dog type.
Gentle chewer: Our plush toy is ideal for dogs with particularly soft mouths who chew their toys only occasionally and rarely pull on them. It's very soft and gentle on the teeth. It's not suitable for dogs with strong biters, and in those cases, it's usually short-lived.
Strong chewers: Robust products such as ropes or tennis balls specially developed for dogs and gentle on their teeth are ideal for dogs with a strong chewing instinct and energetic play behavior.
Extreme chewers: Dogs with an extremely strong chewing instinct and rather rough play behavior need toys that can withstand a lot. Our BEco Ball with Rope is ideal for these wild creatures: Even the strongest jaws can barely harm it.
Note: Despite the highest quality, no dog toy is indestructible or unbreakable.
